expanding horizons

So a couple weekend ago, just before the wife popped, I participated in the 48 Hour Film Project. Something I have done a couple times before.

This time I volunteered to do music with my buddy Juan. This is the first time I think I’ve ever tried to score anything. I was quite excited. I’ve never tried to write music to instill a particular mood, I just write what comes to me. So this was an interesting challenge to test my abilities. (more…)

ouch

My sides hurt. Must watch again.

The only thing that’s funnier than that is the video

oh, now he sleeps

Last night was interesting. Horrific really. It was like trying to sleep during a Tornado Watch. Uneasiness preventing you from relaxing, every little sound waking you up, and this overwhelming sense of impending doom. Noah does does not like the night.

The day however, oh well that’s just fine. He’ll sleep through it no problem. It would seem that when there’s 5 people running around talking loud, banging dishes and such, he sleeps like a log. When it’s quiet, dark, and peaceful…well, it never really gets peaceful now that he’s around.

Sigh. The best part is the fact that it’s REALLY annoying, and horrible cute at the same time. You hate getting up every five minutes to calm him, but you also love seeing him there in the cradle.

something not baby related

But sort of similar: ZOMBIES!

The guys from Shaun of the Dead (and more recently Hot Fuzz) made this little Zombie Survival Guide for a show on the BBC. It’s almost half an hour, but it’s hysterical.

home again

So now we’re back home. We figured we’d keep the “re they supposed to be doing all this stuff so fast” theme going. We came home to the Korte clan in our drive way, filming our return. Then we sat down and had a wonderful pork tenderloin dinner. Hanging around with everyone, dinner cooking, helping Matt with his camcorder…it felt an awful like a get together with my own family. not sure if I’ve ever really gotten that feeling from Teresa’s family. It’s a nice new addition.

But I can’t wait to see the rest of my family in the coming months. Middle of July is the family reunion, where most of my family will first meet my son. So excited. I haven’t seen my dad in like, 9 months. Feels like longer.

It was interesting to sit down to dinner with Noah laying down next to us. He’s stir every once and a while, drop his pacifier, start crying, and I’d have to fix it. I’ve never enjoyed my dinner getting cold so much in my life.

So anyways, getting ramble-y. The Bullards are home. Now for the next step.

Oh, and by the way, I just feel it’s worth mentioning that you never realize just how blessed you are until you have your first child. Of course having the child is wonderful, but I’m speaking more about realizing just how many friends you have when you have to sit down and send our text messages, e-mails and notices to everyone you know. Thank you all for your prayers and support. We hope and pray that you too can be as blessed as we have been.

and now…

OK people, now you have to leave me alone for a while.

And this is the one that I know will bring tears to my dad’s eyes. Happy Grandfather’s Day dad!

b-day plus one

Things I’ve learned:
- Did you know there’s a 5:30 in the morning? Newborns use this time to feed. And cry.
- Newborns express one emotion: dissatisfaction.
- At some point, my wife managed to memorize every “how to take care of a baby” book ever written.
- It’s normal for a newborn to have a patch of dark hair on his back, right above his butt crack, like a plumber.
- “Normal” seems pretty abnormal when you’re talking about newborns.
