So Juan and I tried to win another gizmodo.com contest. Little did we know we lost from the start because we won the last one, so they just auto-disqualified us. Wish they had told us that before we bought the Crayons.
I know it sort of sounds like an oxymoron, but that’s probably one of the things that reading this blog may give you a new look at. The Homeless Guy Blog is written by Kevin Barbieux, who is a homeless man in Nashville. I know you’re probably thinking that if a homeless person can have a laptop and an internet connection, he can have a job and a place to stay. Well, I’ll let you in on this little jewel, he also owns a digital camera that he records video with. But that’s one of the things that this blog will teach you, not all homeless people are urine-soaked drunkards who sleep next to dogs to keep warm. Some homeless are better off than others. But if you spend your time reading this blog looking for ways to discredit the guy, you’re just wasting your time. The blog has little to do with himself, and a lot more to do with raising awareness of what it’s like to be homeless, and what the world looks like from the streets. He writes regularly, and well, and if nothing else, to me, it’s a reminder that not everyone in the world own an iPod and an Xbox.
I’ve been working out for the past two weeks. if you know me at all, this is an amazing feat of will for me. I have barely any ability to change my lifestyle, or start new habits, much less get rid of old bad ones.
But for the past two weeks, I have gotten up every morning at 8:38 and worked out for fifteen minutes. Well, minus last Friday cause I was afraid of being sore for my band’s show. Every morning my alarm goes off at 8:30, I hit snooze, and it returns at 8:38. I get up, feed my cat, work out, then shower and get ready for work. Last night, I slept very badly, and thusly, I was gonna hit the snooze button a second time, and skip my workout. Little did I know, I have a live-in fitness assistant that just wouldn’t have me sleeping in. (more…)
Why is it, every night, as it gets late, I feel like there’s something I’m supposed to be doing? Teresa is in bed, and I sit at the computer, and I just have this feeling like I’m about to say, “Oh yeah, I need to…” But never quite get there. Quite frustrating.
I’m holding out for a hero ’til the end of the night
He’s gotta be strong
And he’s gotta be fast
And he’s gotta be fresh from the fight!
Remember that song? Bonnie Tyler. Footloose. No? Eh, whatever. Truth is, I didn’t even really remember it, but with the magic of Google, I’ve given you the illusion of that knowledge. The internet is just one big bed of lies. And I don’t even make my bed.
But none of the rest of this post is about Bonnie Tyler, or Footloose, or even montage songs from the 80′s (even though I have such a huge love for them) No, the rest of this post is about Guitar Hero. (more…)
So it would seem the folks from Ask A Ninja have started another comedy video podcast called Hope is Emo. well, at least I think it’s by the same people. It’s done in a nearly identical fashion, and the first episode is the latest Ask A Ninja podcast, so put 2 and 2 together…Perhaps if I would read the webpage I would know it IS the people from Ask A Ninja, along with Crista Flanagan of MADtv.
But I’m not sure about Hope. Firstly, I have to admit I have a hard time getting past the fact that I don’t think Hope is emo at all. I think Hope is goth. Hence the title of this post. She’s in all black, fishnet sleeves and all, and just the way she talks strikes me so much more as goth than it does emo. Now, I’m no emo expert, but it almost seems to me someone went and started a podcast without really knowing what they’re talking about.
But we’ll see. I imagine they’ll improve as they get a feel for it, even if I can’t agree with the basis of the series itself.
Me? I made a music video. I talked before about the 48 Hour Film Project, and shortly afterwords everyone in Theater 7 wanted to make a music video for the song Juan and I wrote for the credits of the movie. So Juan and I extended the song (as it was only 53 seconds originally) into 3 minutes, and yesterday we shot a video for it. The video still needs to be edited, but for now, I’ve got photos (taken by the wonderful Amy Asbaugh), of the event after the jump. (more…)
